The Inaugural Don Mattera Lecture will now be held on Heritage Day the 24th September 2021 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Sandton, Johannesburg in partnership with the Gautrain Management Agency (GMA).
The inaugural lecture is planned to pay homage to the iconic poet, author and orator Dr Donato Francisco Mattera, commonly referred to as Bra “Zinga”. The theme of the lecture is THE CHILD– in 2030, “Creating a sustainable, conducive FUTURE ENVIRONMENT for the CHILD”.
Vice-Chair of the Don Mattera Legacy Foundation Dr Teddy Mattera, says, “The Foundation has made considerable headway to host the first Don Mattera Lecture on 6th February, but we had to be responsible and, therefore, postponed the lecture based on the National State of Disaster under Coronavirus COVID-19 lockdown regulations.”.
The Foundation has confirmed several high-profile speakers, namely, internationally renowned education expert Professor Jonathan Jansen to deliver the keynote address, celebrated journalist and newspaper editor Ferial Haffajee as moderator as well as an esteemed panel comprising, Professor Pitika Ntuli, Dr Shaheeda Omar and Dr Tahir Sototo.
Ms Jenny Jeftha, Chairperson of the Don Mattera Legacy Foundation says, “As a Foundation we have decided that the new date, namely 24th September will enable us to host the event under more relaxed Covid-19 regulations. The Foundation has also decided to plan annual events including the annual lecture to coincide with Heritage month going forward”.
