The 2022, 6th Ubuntu Awards Ceremony bestowed the Ubuntu Arts and Culture Diplomacy Veterans Award, to the multi award winning poet, author, journalist, community activist and liberation stalwart Dr Donato Francesco Mattera commonly known as "Bra Don".
On the 12th February 2022, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation recognised South African industry leaders, eminent persons and ordinary citizens for their distinguished service and contribution toward promoting the country's national interests and values across the world.

The author of the celebrated autobiography Memory is the Weapon, where Mattera narrates the crucial events of the 1950s in Sophiatown, one of the most important decades in the history of black political struggles in South Africa, could not travel to Cape Town but his son Gregs Mattera accepted the award on behalf of his father.
